SEO, GEO and AEO: make your offer easier to evaluate

A practical guide to SEO, GEO, and AEO: how to describe a brand, product, content, and site structure so AI models can cite and recommend a company more accurately.

A useful product page answers a buyer’s questions: what it does, who it fits, what it costs and what its limitations are. Those facts also give search and AI systems clearer material to retrieve and summarize.

Short answer

SEO supports search discovery and accessibility. GEO describes work on visibility in generative answers. AEO focuses on answering specific questions clearly. These activities overlap; they are not three independent ranking systems.

Keep the search foundation

Google’s guidance for AI search emphasizes the same fundamentals as search: accessible, indexable pages and helpful content. There is no separate technical shortcut that ensures an AI citation. See Google’s AI search guidance.

Explain the buying decision

Replace claims such as “a revolutionary platform” with the information needed to compare options. For RiseChat, that means page audits, reviewable drafts, monitoring cadence, plan limits and the customer’s responsibility for publishing.

Facts worth making explicit

  • Product category and intended customer.
  • A concrete problem and a realistic use case.
  • Supported features, integrations and setup requirements.
  • Current pricing, capacity and buying terms.
  • Limitations and situations where another option fits better.
  • Verifiable evidence, sources and a useful next step.

Use structure to clarify the facts

Headings, tables and direct answers help readers find information. Structured data can describe visible facts in a machine-readable format. Keep it accurate; adding types or properties does not guarantee a citation.

llms.txt is an optional summary for tools that support it. Google says it does not use the file for AI search. It should not take priority over fixing an inaccessible page or an incomplete product description.

Check what changes

Save the prompt, language, model, date, answer and cited sources. Repeat the same questions so that comparisons are meaningful. Separate brand mentions from citations and both from leads or sales.

When an answer is inaccurate, inspect your own pages and its cited sources. Correct what you control, then observe subsequent answers. You cannot force a platform to refresh or use a specific source.
